Ghana to help Liberia Fix its Dumsor Problems

Ghana has decided to offer technical support to Liberia in the power sector. The decision was the outcome of bilateral talks held between President John Dramani Mahama and the Liberian President, Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, at the Flagstaff House when the Liberian leader paid a one-day official visit to Ghana yesterday.

The two leaders, who also discussed issues on trade, security and sub-regional integration, used the meeting to advance bilateral relations between the two countries.

Liberia has a challenge in power distribution, and President Mahama said the Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo), with experience in that area, would give technical support and training, both in hydro and thermal, to Liberia.

At a joint press briefing after the meeting, President Mahama mentioned the role the Volta River Authority (VRA) played in restoring power to Monrovia after the Liberian civil war and said  “We believe we can build on that, especially in technical support. ”

The planned support by Ghana to Liberia is against the background of the fact  that VRA, GRIDCo and other companies in the power generation and distribution sector have vast experience in the area.

Ghana and Liberia have had longstanding and fruitful relations. Ghana played a key role in ending the civil war in Liberia.

The 4,000 strong ECOWAS Monitoring Group (ECOMOG) Force, under the command  of Ghana’s Lt. General Arnold Quainoo, that protected lives and property and provided security for the interim administration of Liberia, was drawn from Ghana, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, and The Gambia

Touching on trade, President Mahama mentioned the Economic Partnership Agreement  (EPA) and said it had become imperative for Ghana and Cote d’Ivoire to go ahead and sign interim EPAs with the European Union (EU).

“We will continue to work to ensure that we bring the whole sub-region on board so that it advances the cause of our integration,” he added.

On security, President Mahama said the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) had reached agreement with Liberia to offer training and technical support to Liberia.

President Sirleaf expressed gratitude to Ghana for the support it continued to offer Liberia to overcome its challenges.

She said in the areas of infrastructure, mining and energy, Ghana had played a significant role in Liberia’s development, adding, “We will learn from Ghana’s experiences”.

“Liberia today is very heavily dependent on the public sector, and we are trying to change that because we know that at the end of the day sustainability is from the private sector,” she said.

In that instance, she said, Liberia would learn from Ghana that had moved far in private sector growth.

Earlier,  Mrs Ellen Johnson Sirleaf  was received at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) by the Vice-President, Mr Kwesi Amissah-Arthur, when she arrived in Accra for a day’s official visit, reports Sebastian Syme.

The dignitaries who accompanied the Vice-President to meet the Liberian leader included the Interior Minister, Mr Prosper Bani; the Trade and Industry Minister, Dr Ekow Spio-Garbrah; the Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture, Ms Sherry Ayittey;  and Nii Lantey Vanderpuje, the Minister of Youth and Sports.

Ghana-Liberia relations

Diplomatic relations between the two countries date as far back as 1957 when Ghana attained independence from colonial rule.

The two countries have sought to expand cooperation in mutually rewarding areas, including economic trade and investment, energy and mineral resources, agriculture and livestock development, education and health, tourism and culture, science and technology, security and military cooperation, as well as foreign affairs.

This Dad Sold His App For $54 Million and Went Around The World!

What would you do if you became a multi-millionaire overnight? How about sell all your belongings and set off on an incredible adventure with your family in tow? That’s exactly what the ‘bucket list family’ did, and their amazing story has gone viral.

25 year old entrepreneur Garrett Gee sold his mobile scanning app, aka Scan, to Snapchat in 2014 for a whopping $54 million. With co-founders receiving a cut and nearly half of the value being paid in Snapchat equity it is not known exactly how much Gee personally made, but one thing is clear – it’s enough to travel on for the foreseeable future! Gee and his 29 year old wife Settie, who met while both serving missions for the LDS church, made the life-changing decision to pack up and take their young son and daughter around the world.

They sold basically everything they owned; including cars, furniture, electrical goods and clothes and started a blog – thebucketlistfamily.com – to update family and friends on their whereabouts. However, with word spreading of their amazing story, they soon attracted attention from people all over the world, and as a result now have hundreds of thousands of followers on their Instagram. Many of their followers are inspired by their story and have used it as an impetus for their own travel plans, though it goes without saying that their posts have also brought out the green-eyed monster in some less enthusiastic people !

Their first destination was the Pacific Ocean for six months, and though they had originally intended to end their travels in December last year they are still on the road and continuing their adventures in far-flung corners of the planet! So far they have been to such enviable places as Tahiti, Turks & Caicos, the Bahamas, Australia, Thailand, New Zealand, Fiji and Indonesia.

They are currently having a ball in Japan, and have plans to then head over to Nepal and Korea before exploring a lot of Europe. They post daily on their social media with beautiful landmarks and sights they have come across on their travels, as well as more candid snaps into the realities of exploring the planet with two little kiddies along for the ride. Their blog features more in-depth info on all the places they’ve been to, with vlogs posted every now and again. It’s a wonder they have any time to actually do any travelling really !

The couple have said of their life-altering decision via their blog — “We were going to take the typical next step in life and “grow up” and build a house and settle into careers..buuut how bout not! We’re not quite ready for that. We feel like we still have so much to learn about life and happiness before we can set up our future life and home. That’s why we started our family bucket list. We decided as a young family that now was the time to form healthy habits and create traditions that will hopefully shape us into better people the rest of our lives.” Amen to that!

Pastor Impregnates 20 Members of His Congregation

53-year-old pastor from Nigeria who impregnated more than 20 members of his congregation, including several married women and young girls, claiming that the Holy Spirit told him to have sex with them has been arrested for sexual abuse.

Ebere Amaraizu, DSP, a spokesman for the Enugu State Police Command told NaiJ that general overseer of Vineyard Ministry of the Holy Trinity, Pastor Timothy Ngwu, was arrested for abusing his female members.“The pastor claims to be obeying prophetic/spiritual injunction to do the will of God, which is to impregnate any one chosen and revealed by the Holy Spirit, irrespective of whether the woman is married or not,” said Amaraizu.

“When the woman is delivered of the baby, the child remains in the ministry with the mother for life,” he added.

According to a Vanguard report, Ngwu was reported to the police by his estranged wife, Veronica Ngwu, who got tired of his lascivious behavior after he impregnated her young niece.

A brother of the pastor, who did not want to be identified, told Vanguard that he had been warning Ngwu and his family about his behavior for a long time but he refused to listen. The arrest, he said, was God’s wrath falling on his brother.

“Let me tell you, God’s anger has befallen my brother, we have severally appealed to him to stop what he was doing but he refused. He has colonized our compound, bearing children with recklessness. He accused us of being jealous of him because he is doing the will of God,” the brother told Vanguard.

“Look at these buildings here,” he said pointing to the church compound. “He (pastor) has converted all of them to himself in the name of vineyard. I can’t say exactly what informed his spirit to the devilish act in the name of God. He sacked his betrothed wife who has three children for him and embarked on impregnating married women and young girls. Look at the whole compound littered with children of different sex and age,” he lamented.

“How can an educated man of his status reason like an unrefined man? All members of the vineyard are fools, how can a woman abandon her husband for another man in the name of worshiping God and practice adultery? I cannot get myself involved in this matter; Vero has opened the vessel of worms in the vineyard. Let them sort themselves out with the police but I want the ministry to be shut down completely,” he added.

Ngwu told NaiJ that he has approximately five wives with 13 children along with concubines he acquired by the prophetic will of God.

A World Without Facebook would had been a Better Place

Whiles surfing on quora and checking out some questions people are asking, I saw this; what does it mean if a person doesn’t want to be on a site like Facebook?

There is no doubt Facebook has become a part of us but the question is, is it adding value to our lives? Thar question asked about brought in lots of comments but notable among them was this;

Look at the cute little old lady in this photo as stars arrive for a movie premier. While others rush to post photos, she was able to soak in the entire experience. It’s the best reminder I’ve seen to log off Facebook and occasionally put down the cell phone.

This lady may or may not have a Facebook account but as an infrequent user myself, the popularity contest of trying to get the most “likes” just isn’t that appealing when compared to other things a person can do with their time.

Oddly enough, this touching picture of a pensioner living for the moment was re-tweeted more than 1,200 times so maybe I’m not the only one ready to log off just a bit more often.

SAD: Tourist Bus Burns Leaving all 26 Passengers Dead

Investigators inspect a bus carrying tourists from mainland China that crashed and caught fire along an expressway on its way to the airport in Taiwan’s city of Taoyuan. (AFP)

A Taiwan bus taking mainland Chinese tourists to the airport for their flight home caught fire and crashed Tuesday, killing all 26 on board as desperate passengers struggled in vain to escape.

Footage on local media showed the bus, with flames shooting from the front, had rammed into an expressway barrier near Taipei.

The footage showed thick plumes of smoke and burned-out wreckage at the roadside.

A police spokesman said the bus had caught fire before it crashed into the barrier but gave no reason.

“All the people on the bus died,” an official from the National Fire Agency told AFP.

“At this stage it is still not clear why no passengers escaped from the bus. Prosecutors and police are investigating the cause of the accident,” she added.

One image in Hong Kong’s South China Morning Post newspaper showed two men trying to smash the bus windows with fire extinguishers as the doors of the vehicle remained shut.

A firefighter at the scene said there were no survivors still calling for help when they arrived.

The tour group of 24 people, eight men and 16 women, was from China’s northeastern city of Dalian, Taiwan’s interior ministry said.

A Taiwanese driver and Taiwanese tour guide were also killed, the National Fire Agency confirmed.

The group had been on their way to Taipei’s main Taoyuan airport at the end of an eight-day trip around the island.

They were scheduled to take a 4:30 pm flight back to Dalian after arriving in Taiwan last Tuesday. The accident happened shortly before 1:00 pm.

Taiwan has seen a boom in tourism from mainland China since a rapprochement between the two rivals under former President Ma Ying-jeou, who came to power in 2008 and left office in May.

There are fears the industry may be hit after Beijing-sceptic Tsai Ing-wen won the presidency in January.
