Petrol Prices down by 10%. Hypocrite NPA!

Prices of all petroleum products, apart from premix fuel, will be reduced by at least 10% effective January 1, 2015, according to sources at the National Petroleum Authority (NPA).

The regulator has therefore directed Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) to effect this change at all retail outlets.

The decision takes a balance position of continuous effort to reduce outstanding under-recoveries and at the same time reflect falling prices of petroleum products on the world market,  the NPA said.

Petrol currently sells at about Ghȼ17 per gallon, a price the public considers outrageous in the light of considerable dip in the price of crude oil on the world market.

The price of crude oil currently stands at $53 a barrel.

Despite halving debts owed BDCs, the NPA had maintained it would not review petroleum prices downwards until it is able to clear all its debts.

The NPA was hoping to capitalise on the falling prices of crude oil to clear debts owed the distributors.

The National Petroleum Authority (NPA) has so far cleared about half of some GH¢412 million debt owed importers of petroleum products.

7 Qualities that the Highly Successful Live By

What separates the highly successful from those who are “just getting by“?

This is a question that a lot of aspiring entrepreneurs have when they are just starting out. You have read all the books and learned all the skills but your mindset and “know how” may not be quite there yet.

Here is a list of the 7 qualities that the highly successful live by.

1. They Are Actors On The Pitch Of Life, Not Spectators

The vast majority of people live in Dreamland where they wish, hope and pray that things will turn around in their favor, the highly successful are those who get up and take action! They never wait for a more favorable condition or time. They simply set out to get things done.

Nolan Bushnell (American engineer and entrepreneur) once said:

“The critical ingredient is getting off your butt and doing something. It’s as simple as that. A lot of people have ideas, but there are few who decide to do something about them now. Not tomorrow. Not next week. But today. The true entrepreneur is a doer, not a dreamer.”

J.K. Rowling worked on her first ever Harry Potter novel when she was a single mother who just lived off welfare. Yet, she didn’t let that deter her. J.K. finished the book and asked publishers all over town to help get the book published. As you would expect, they rejected her and even criticized her harshly because she wasn’t a well-known author yet.

It appeared like nothing was working out for her but she kept at it. She chose to continue and to push through.

In 2014, she became the first ever billionaire author!

2. They Love What They Do

A very remarkable story that reveals this is that of Steve Jobs (American entrepreneur, marketer and inventor as well as the co-founder, chairman and CEO of Apple Inc).

In 1976, when he was 21 years old, he and his friend (Steve Wozniak) started Apple Computers from the Jobs’ family garage. Apple went public on Dec 12, 1980 with a value of 1.2 billion dollars on its first day! In the next few years, Apple suffered significant design flaws that resulted in IBM suddenly surpassing Apple in sales. By 1985, Apple forced Jobs to resign from the company he co-founded!

He picked himself up quickly and started a new hardware and software enterprise he called “Next” To cut the long story short, in 1996, Apple purchased “Next” for $429 Million and eventually hired Jobs as the CEO.

Today, Steve Jobs’ is quoted to have said:

“Sometimes life hits you in the head with a brick. Don’t lose faith. I’m convinced the only thing that kept me going was that I loved what I did. You’ve got to find what you love.”

Yes indeed, you have to discover what you love to do, and be the best at it.

3. They Don’t Stop Until They Get There

I remember hearing the story of Colonel Sanders (founder of KFC) sometime ago. He drove all over America and offered his fried chicken recipe for a certain percentage of the sales. He knocked on several doors, slept in his car and carried on walking around in his white suit even though he already got 1,009 refusals! On the 1,010th time, he finally got a “yes”.

Thomas Edison on the other hand, had his teacher say to him that he was “too stupid to learn anything”, and was fired from his first two jobs for being “non-productive”.

As an inventor, he made 1000 unsuccessful attempts at inventing the light bulb.

When a reporter asked “How did it feel to fail 1000 times?” Edison replied:

“I didn’t fail 1000 times. The light bulb was an invention with 1000 steps.”

Joe Girard said:

“The elevator to success is out of order. You’ll have to use the stairs…. One step at a time.”

Simply put, highly successful people have a different understanding of the word “FAIL”.

To them, to fail just means “First Attempt In Learning”. So every time they seemingly fail, they consider that to be that they have only found one more way that it didn’t work and then they move on.

Walt Disney was fired by a newspaper editor because “he lacked imagination and had no good ideas”.

He went bankrupt several times before he finally built Disneyland. In fact, the proposed park was rejected by the city of Anaheim on grounds that it would only attract riffraff.

Today, the Walt Disney Company has annual revenues of approximately $35 billion!

4. They Focus On Serving Others Rather Than Being Served

Highly successful people know that true success is about serving others with great value rather than living a self-centered life. They know that being selfish, stingy and money driven can help make you money at first but it’s not really a good plan for long-term success. They focus on serving other people and helping them even if it means giving up some of their own resources!

In most cases, successful people define their success on the basis of their positive contributions to others rather than how much money they make. Incidentally, it is practically impossible to really make a remarkable
contribution in the lives of others without making money as well. So the undiscerning are quick to assume that the successful became successful by making more money.

However, it is important to note that it is not that the successful have no care for money. It’s just that money isn’t their focus and priority in life.

5. They Have Clear Cut Visions

A very common factor among the successful is that they all have clarity and certainty about what they want and don’t want out of life. They set SMART (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, Time-bound) goals in line with their vision. They have identified their core values (what is important to them) and go all out to live in line with them. They know exactly what they want to achieve and then they chart their course towards it.

Aside from having crystal clear short and long-term goals, the successful also determine exactly what they MUST accomplish each day to bring them closer to their already defined goals. They take full advantage of the “Golden Hour” principle which takes the first hour after you wake up in the morning into consideration. It is assumed that what you do mentally, physically, emotionally, and spiritually during this first hour, sets the tone for the entire day.

6. They Keep Improving Themselves And What They Do

Not a single one of the success stories you would hear of out there started out successful. In fact, for many of them, they were laughed at or even scorned as they began to dream, plan and take the necessary action towards the accomplishment of their set goals. Through thick and thin, they just kept on improving themselves over and over again. It was this self-improvement over time that impacted on the quality of what they did and made them the success that they eventually became.

For instance, did you ever read that Michael Jordan and Bob Cousy were each ousted from their high school basketball teams? How does it feel to know that Michael Jordan who later in his life was addressed as the “Best Player Ever” could not be included amongst the 10-best players in a tiny Laney High School in Wilmington? At the time he was simply not good enough or else, he would have been on the team.

Michael, later in his career, went on to say:

“I’ve missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I’ve lost almost 300 games. 26 times I’ve been trusted to take the game winning shot … and missed. I’ve failed over and over and over again in my life. That is why I succeed.”

No matter what you have decided to do, be sure to see that you are consistently adding to your personal value as well as to the quality of what you do. Strive to see that you never do things of the same quality twice!

Steve Jobs once said:

“Be a yardstick of quality. Some people aren’t used to an environment where excellence is expected.”

Dare to be different.

7. They Understand The Importance Of Discipline

One other quality of highly successful people is that they understand the importance of discipline and self-control. They have come to know that it is not every route that will lead to their desired destination. Hence, they discipline themselves to follow only the route that leads their way. That is why they almost always come across others as mean people!

They constantly work at educating themselves, either formally (academically), informally (watching, listening, asking, and reading) or experientially (doing, trying)… or all three.

This also translates into their ability to maintain their focus on one thing rather than everything. Whereas the ordinary or general public would have long lost focus and concentration on what really matters.

Through discipline, highly successful people know how to pay attention on the one thing that really matters – their goals!

Kwaw Kese now a Free Man as court Grants him Bail

At last, controversial hiplife musician, Kwaw Kese, has regained his freedom albeit temporarily.

The Kumasi Circuit Court which had denied him bail on previous occasions, eventually granted a fourth bail application Tuesday, filed by his lawyer.

Luv FM’s Erastus Asare Donkor, who was in court. reported a visibly relieved Kwaw Kese managed a wry smile when the court announced its decision to grant him bail.

The controversial rapper was arrested by the police in Kumasi on November 22, 2014, for allegedly smoking cannabis in public and was remanded into prison after making an appearance in court Monday.

He was whisked away into a police van and sent to the Kumasi Central Prison which served as his new home until he today, December 30, when the court granted him bail on health grounds.

The court, presided over by Judge William Boampong granted him 80,000 Ghana cedis bail with one surety to be justified.

Erastus says the lawyers are scrambling to meet the bail conditions so Kwaw Kese can go home today.

“Mourinho told me to DATE a White Girl to get more Playing time” – Mikel Obi

Nigerian Midfielder John Mikel Obi revealed in an exclusive media interview with our correspondent that his Coach asked him to pay more attention to white girls in order to be listed in his starting eleven.

According to Mikel, “Boss asked me to go out with white girls in order to get more playing time. I get 10 minutes of play for every white girl I go out with.”

This probably explains why Mikel has been releasing pictures of him kissing his white girlfriend in public, probably to let Coachie Mourinho know that he is an obedient midfielder.

When our correspondent quizzed him about Rita Dominic who seems to have a crush on him due to the amount of time she spends in his company in London, Mikel replied that whatever feelings he has for Rita would have to be sacrificed in the best interest of his career and his future.

Mourinho’s purported directive to Obi is being investigated by the EPL and FIFA as being racist in nature.

Popular human rights activist Femi Falana has also been contacted by the Nigerian Government on the possibility of suing Chelsea FC and Mourinho over the allegations of deprivation of Mikel’s freedom of association. FNN promises to keep you updated as events progress.

Dangote In Financial Doom- More than $7bn gone already!

According to Mfonobong Nsehe report on Forbes, Africa richest man Alahaji Dangote is experiencing financial woes as naira and stocks plunge. The report claims Dangote, Nigeria’s famous entrepreneur has lost $7.8 billion since the drop of global oil price.

Tony Elumelu and Jim Ovia were also amongst wealthy Nigeria billionaire suffering from the devaluation of Naira.

See the excerpt of the report after the cut..

A few weeks ago, the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, announced a nearly 10% devaluation of the Naira, Nigeria’s currency, after admitting that a plunge in world oil prices and dwindling dollar reserves were making it difficult to defend the value of the currency. The Naira is now trading at N187 to $1, compared to N165 in November. In dollar terms, the devaluation has knocked more than $40 billion off the value of Nigeria’s economy.

Dangote is the biggest loser among Nigeria’s richest people as the Naira’s slump, coupled with falling stock prices, has erased more than $7.8b of his fortune since Feb, when Forbes locked in the values for its annual ranking of the World’s Billionaires.

Dangote was worth $25 billion at the time; as of market close on Tuesday, he’s worth $17.2 billion. More than half of the drop in his fortune has happened since early November. As of Nov. 7, Dangote was worth $21.6 billion, $4.4 billion more than now.

Here’s why: The last few weeks have been a bit of a disaster for many companies listed on the Nigerian Stock Exchange. Several blue-chip stocks such as Dangote Cement, Zenith Bank, Transcorp and United Bank of Africa among several others have hit one-year-lows as a result of the fall in oil prices, a general uncertainty regarding the 2015 general elections, Central Bank regulatory headwinds, and weak earnings from large cap companies. These have all contributed toward putting naira-denominated assets including equities at risk.

After Dangote, the second biggest loser among Nigeria’s ultra-rich is Tony Elumelu, the Chairman of Heirs Holdings, an investment company. Heirs Holdings, which is wholly-owned by Elumelu, is the controlling shareholder in Transcorp, a publicly-listed conglomerate with interests in power production, hotels and agriculture. Transcorp’s current market capitalization is now $700 million, down from $1.4 billion at the beginning of November. Heirs Holdings has lost an estimated $345 million in paper value on Transcorp, and its stake in the company as at Monday is now worth roughly $400 million, down from $700 million. Elumelu’s investments in other listed companies like UBA, Africa Prudential PLC and UBA Capital have shed a little over $27 million in value.

Other big losers include Nigerian multi-millionaire banker Jim Ovia, a co-founder of Zenith Bank. The value of his stake in the financial services provider is $240 million as of late Monday, down from more than $350 million last month. He owns a 9% stake in the bank.

It’s restoration with Stacy

After her absence from the TV scene for almost two years, Stacy Amoateng, formerly the host of Music Music on TV3, is out with her own television talk show dubbed; Restoration With Stacy (RWS) which will be launched tonight at 6 pm on TV3.

According to Stacy, RWS is all about dealing with issues affecting us in our daily lives, be it religion, hardship or relationship. It’s aim is to bring laughter to people who are downhearted and to give viewers a reason to put the past behind them and live a fruitful life with no regrets.

Giving an insight into what RWS is about, Stacy said; “Restoration entails who God is and what he can do for us in times of troubles and hurdles of life. There are going to be tears of joy moments on the show as we will bring victims of the circumstances surrounding the issues to be discussed to come and share their experiences and tell their stories.

“Laughter will also be a vital part of it because, at the end of the day when all is said and done, there should be laughter on the faces of the weary and there will be hope for the hopeless too. Basically, RWS is just about restoring hope, joy and laughter into the lives of people and those of similar interest.”

Throwing light on the choice of title in an interview with Daily Graphic, she said: “We all need restoration. We go through issues we are not able to talk about due to our culture, fear and insecurity. It’s about time we discuss our bitter issues to help others know it’s not the end of the world. Restoration is divine.

The concept came about when I was sick and bedridden for a year. We all need someone to lean on. And in our times of pain and tears we always look ahead to get to the finish line.”

Technical production for RWS is by Emklan Media and content production was done by Stacy and supported by Bridget Torsu.

Restoration, which will have studio audience, will be shown every Saturday from 6 to 7pm on TV3.

Rihanna’s Christmas Tree Is So Rihanna

When it comes to Christmas décor, “bad girl” Rihanna has unique taste.

The 26-year-old “Stay” singer, whose real name is Robyn Rihanna Fenty, is ringing in Dec. 25 in style, with a Christmas tree that isn’t exactly, well, a tree. See for yourself.

From afar, the faux tree seems to be made of sparkling black diamonds, or something to that effect – appropriate, considering she just held her first annual Diamond Ball this month.

And if you wanted to get an even closer look at Rih’s holiday centerpiece, aka the “best tree everrrrr,” you’re in luck.

Of course, when you have a super chic Christmas tree like this one, you have to take advantage.

As 2014 winds down, Rihanna has been gearin’ up for what promises to be an eventful 2015. In November, she told ET’s Sophie Schillaci that her new album is coming “very soon,”

“That’s my hope,” she said. “I’m really excited about the music that we’ve been working on, so I can’t wait for people to hear it.”

Rihanna has been teasing out new music and intel on her eighth studio album under the hashtag #R8. She’s already dropped snippets of two new tracks (“Kiss It Better,” teased earlier this month, and the first 15-second clip back in November), posted art and switched up her hair for a shoot in Paris.
