Kwasi Appiah Commits Suicide Over Mobile Phone

An 18-year old second year Junior High School (JHS) student only identified as Kwasi Appiah has committed suicide by drinking a liquid substance suspected to be poison.

The incident occurred on Thursday afternoon at Wassa Japa, a farming community near Wassa Akronpong in Wasa Amenfi East district of the Western Region.

According to Abrewa Nana Kwabina Tewia, a local journalist in the area, the deceased earlier that morning demanded for a mobile phone from his mother which she promised to give him  but at a later date.

He however insisted that he wanted the mobile phone immediately and kept piling pressure on his mother to either give him the mobile phone or he will do the unthinkable.

Mother of the deceased later left the house for the farm and on her return she realized he was nowhere to be found not even the knocks on his door could get him to respond.

The door to his room was forcibly broken into and he was spotted lying helpless on the floor with the liquid substance beside him confirming suspicion he drank Dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane (DDT).

He was rushed to the Wassa Akropong Hospital but pronounced dead on arrival.
