– Over 100 people have been rushed to the Takoradi Port Hospital in the Western Region after sustaining injuries from a gas explosion on the Sekondi-Takoradi road
– The injured include fire men who were fighting the blaze – The GNFS are yet to state the cause of the explosion
-The number of victims as a result of the Gas explosion has risen from the 25 reported earlier to over 100. “We went to the Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital where we were told by the hospital authorities that as the time we visited, they were working on over 60 people.
We followed up again to the GHAPOHA hospital, and over there too we could count over 30 people who had sustained various degrees of injury,” a Citi FM journalist, reported.
A gas explosion which happened at the OLAM Oil depot on the Sekondi-Takoradi highway on Tuesday morning has reportedly caused the injury to even the fire fighters. KOJOKROM.COM can report that the injured have been rushed to the Effia Nkwanta regional hospital and are receiving treatment.
According to an eyewitness report by Empire FM reporter, the fire service personnel present were trying to prevent the fire from spreading to a nearby filling station. The eyewitness says the situation may escalate as the depot is situated between two fuel stations. Police have already arrived at the scene to provide security.
